FAQs

  • Yes. Exfoliating and washing will help remove a stain faster.

  • Yes! I love coming up with new designs and the challenge of drawing something new. We can also do a design created by a different designer, with a small charge.

  • Yes! You can book a private appointment in your home (and can include one other person to split the cost and time) for a full hour of private henna with a design of your choosing discussed prior. This can also be in any location you wish.

If a location is available and if we can meet somewhere close to my home, I will meet for a personal appointment for hand/arm/wrist designs for the cost of the design and a $10 fee.

  • Yes, however if the design takes more time, we may have to meet for a separate appointment outside of a market setting (if it’s busy) or save it for a private appointment.

  • A lot of things can determine a different stain: temperature, humidity, sunlight, keeping the paste on for a long time and avoiding water for 24-48 hours can result in a deeper stain.

Early contact with water, not allowing the paste to fully set, and moisturizing prior can also effect the depth and darkness of a stain.

  • No. Colored henna cones are often a blend of henna and chemical dye in order to give the color difference. However, if you want a design for an occasion that needs to be in color, we can use body paint and complete the design with body paint in a henna cone.

However, this will not stain and will come off with a wash.

  • Specific events will have designs at a lower cost if it fits the occasion (such as Pride and a special Pride-themed menu for $10).

Regular/repeat clients will be charged a lower amount than typical market prices.

Following me on Instagram or Facebook can give you $5 off. Posting a picture of your design and tagging me will also give you an additional $5 off. You can continually get a design and post a photo for $5 off every time.

How Long Does Henna Last?

Henna lasts 7-10 days with proper aftercare. Most of my clients and myself can have it last between 2-3 weeks.

What is Hengua?

My “darkness blend” is the same all natural henna mixed with a small amount of pure jagua fruit juice. Jagua itself can leave a deep blue stain that often appears black. This results in a deeper brown stain, in contrast to the reddish, lighter brown associated with henna.

How long do I keep the paste on?

In heat, henna only needs a minimum of 2 hours to stain. Keeping the paste on for 6-8 hours is recommended to allow the paste to fully set.

Is henna or hengua dangerous?

Henna itself is just a pigment. However, for it to be made into a paste, it is often mixed with lemon juice and essential oils. Hengua is mixed with pure jagua fruit juice from the jagua fruit. If you have any allergies or skin sensitivities to lemon juice, fruit juice, or essential oils, we can either test a small area for reactions prior to getting a design, or opt for a glitter tattoo instead.

Do you have “Black Henna?”

No. “Black henna” is not henna, nor does it contain henna. Black henna is a chemical mix of PPD (paraphenylenediamine) often found in black hair dye, that is toxic to the skin and illegal in the US because of its potentially devastating effects.

Aftercare Instructions

  1. Allow henna paste to fully dry for about 20-30 minutes. Do not touch the paste beforehand to avoid smudging.

  2. Leave the dried paste on for 6-12 hours (a minimum of two). The longer you leave the paste on, the deeper the stain will be.

  3. To remove the paste, scrape it off with a spoon, card, or your nails even. Use a body-safe oil to aid in removal if needed. Do not use water.

  4. Avoid contact with water for up to 24 hours to allow the stain to darken. If you must shower, cover the design with plastic to limit exposure to water. Coating with a thick layer of oil or Vaseline to create a barrier can also help.

Ingredients

Henna & darkness blend cones are sourced from Gopi Henna: organic rajastani henna powder, eucalyptus globulus oil, raw sugar, lemon juice, distilled water, and xantham gum. Darkness blend also includes jagua fruit juice.

My other henna cones are from Catch My Eye henna artist, made with lavender oil, organic rajastani henna powder, sugar, and water.
